The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), is currently riding the SUV wave. With the latest launches like the Grand Vitara, Franks, New Brezza, and Jimny in the last two years, the home-grown carmaker has a good share of the overall SUV market.
To continue its growth trajectory, multiple new SUVs are in the pipeline and are expected to be launched in the coming years. These upcoming SUVs will open the gates to new segments for Maruti Suzuki, thereby gaining a larger market share. For reference, the company has a 20% market share in the utility vehicle segment. Among the upcoming sports utility vehicles, a micro-SUV is currently under development to rival the likes of the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exeter.

According to the latest media reports, the micro-SUV will be launched in the Indian market in the years 2026–2027. The new micro-SUV will be positioned below the Brezza in the brand’s lineup.
While high-riding hatchbacks like the S-Presso and Ignis currently do duty in the micro-SUV segment, a proper SUV with a butch stance is needed, just like its rivals in the segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Y43 micro SUV is expected to feature compact dimensions with a strong SUV stance, making it ideal for both city driving and light highway use. Its size will place it squarely in the sub-4-metre micro SUV segment, where practicality and road presence are key buying factors.

These dimensions will help the Y43 maintain a compact footprint while offering better cabin space than typical hatchbacks.
While details about Maruti’s new project are currently scarce, we expect it to be less than 4 meters long. High ground clearance, a commanding diving position, and a proper SUVish stance are some of the main points the Japanese carmaker is targeting with its upcoming micro-SUV.
Talking about the design, we can expect the same as the company’s latest crop of SUVs, including the Grand Vitara and Franks. Inside the cabin, part-sharing is the name of the game,
with features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, flat-bottom steering wheel, six airbags, a head-up display, automatic HVAC, and push-button start/stop, among others.

We expect the representative upcoming Y43 micro-SUV to be powered by the 1.2-litre Z-series mild-hybrid petrol engine that will soon debut in the new-gen Swift, mated to a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes Expected mileage is 25 Kmpl to 27 Kmpl.
The dashboard of the Maruti Suzuki New Micro SUV Y43 is expected to feature a wide and horizontal layout, helping the cabin feel more airy. The design may borrow elements from the Fronx and Grand Vitara, with clean lines and textured trims for a rugged yet modern look.
Key highlights may include:

Maruti Suzuki Y43 Engine and Powertrain
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Y43 micro SUV is expected to be powered by an efficient and refined petrol engine that caters to both city driving and occasional highway cruising.
This 1.2-litre petrol unit is likely to be part of Suzuki’s Z-series engine family, known for its balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The mild-hybrid system will help reduce fuel consumption and improve throttle response, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
While official figures are not yet released, we expect output to be in the range below based on similar Maruti Suzuki engines:
These figures would make the Y43 competitive with rivals like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter, offering peppy city performance with good fuel economy.
Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to launch its first electric car, the eVX, and the Grand Vitara-based Y17 7-seater SUV.
